SARASWATI JAYANTI – CELEBRATING KNOWLEDGE, MUSIC, ART, WISDOM, AND LEARNING
In January 2020 , UTHO (UK Telugu Hindu Organisation) hosted a vibrant and spiritual celebration of Saraswati Jayanti , also known as Vasant Panchami (festival marking the arrival of spring) , on the 25th January. The event brought together several Telugu families from Warwick , Coventry , Rugby , Milton Keynes and London to honour and worship Saraswati Mata (Mother Saraswati) – the Hindu goddess of wisdom , music , art and learning.
The celebration was deeply enriching for both children and adults. Young attendees participated in an engaging session to understand the meaning behind various Hindu Puja (worship) rituals. After learning their significance , the children performed a short Puja themselves , creating a beautiful moment of devotion and understanding.
Mata Saraswati was worshipped through various Indian classical art forms. Talented artists and children came together to present performances that included Carnatic Vocal music , Mridangam (a classical percussion instrument) , Violin , Veena (a string instrument) , as well as Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi (both classical Indian dance forms). The performances reflected the grace and devotion rooted in Indian culture and were deeply appreciated by everyone in attendance.
A very short video was shown which captured glimpses of this divine gathering , highlighting the talent and spiritual energy of the participants. The atmosphere was filled with devotion and reverence , allowing all present to feel the divine blessing of Mata Saraswati. The entire session transported both performances and the audience into a state of bliss – an experience unique to Indian classical traditions.
The celebration served not just as a cultural event but as a platform for learning , sharing , and spiritual connection – embodying the true essence of Saraswati Jayanti.
