A Poignant Tribute: Hindu Representation at Holocaust Memorial Service in Barnet
In January 2020 , Dr Harsha Jani represented the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (Voluntary Service Organsation) (UK) at a local Holocaust Memorial Service in Barnet , held on January 27.
The service served as a meaningful opportunity to reflect , pray , and pay respects to the victims of the Holocaust.
Organised by the London Borough of Barnet , the event brought together members of various faith communities. The ceremony included touching elements such as children reading poems and passages from the Torah (Jewish holy scripture) , and healing music performed by local musicians.
One of the most moving movements came through the testimony of Holocaust survivor Mr. Ivan Shaw , who shared his harrowing experiences. His words served as a powerful reminder that , through the times that have passed , the emotional and historical scars of such atrocities remain.
A benediction was delivered by Rabbi Miriam Berger , who offered a heartful prayer : “May God’s face turn towards you and keep you.”
Attendees also witnessed a poignant visual presentation from the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust , which depicted the harsh realities of Nazi persecution and the Holocaust. The presentation explored themes such as Family , Leaving Home , Education and Child Labour.
Dr. Harsha Jani’s participation marked a significant representation of the Hindu community , emphasising the importance of solidarity , remembrance , and the universal call for peace and human dignity.
