Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (UK) Birmingham Raises Funds for Acorns Children’s Hospice Through Community Charity Walk
On 14th December 2025, the Birmingham North and South Branches of Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (UK), led by the Shiva Branch of HSS (UK), organised their annual community service event in support of Acorns Children’s Hospice.
Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (UK), commonly known as HSS (UK), is a voluntary cultural and community organisation that promotes Hindu values, leadership development, family wellbeing, and selfless service across the United Kingdom. Community service plays a central role in the organisation’s activities, encouraging individuals of all ages to contribute positively to society.
The charity walk brought together 32 participants ranging in age from 14 to over 70 years old, demonstrating a strong sense of unity, determination, and intergenerational community spirit. The event began at Cannon Hill Park, where participants gathered early in the morning before embarking on a 10-mile walk to Lickey Hills Country Park.
Despite the winter chill, participants remained enthusiastic throughout the journey and were rewarded with bright winter sunshine along the route. A dedicated mobile support team provided refreshments, welfare checks, and encouragement throughout the walk, ensuring that everyone completed the challenge safely and in high spirits.
The event reflected the Hindu principle of Seva, meaning selfless service to society. In Hindu and Indian culture, helping others without expecting personal reward is regarded as an important moral and spiritual duty. Charity, compassion, and collective wellbeing are values deeply embedded in Hindu traditions and are regularly expressed through volunteering, fundraising, and support for community causes.
Supporting children’s hospices and healthcare charities also aligns closely with the broader Indian cultural emphasis on caring for vulnerable members of society and supporting families during difficult times. Events such as this demonstrate how cultural values can be translated into meaningful action that benefits the wider community.
Thanks to the generosity and dedication of participants and supporters, the fundraising initiative has already raised more than £1,300 for Acorns Children’s Hospice, with donations continuing to be received.
The event highlighted how organisations such as HSS (UK) help strengthen community ties while encouraging active citizenship, healthy living, and compassionate service to society.
