Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh UK Welcomes Local Councillor

Councillor Chris Chilton, who represents the Terriers and Amersham Hill ward, joined the event as a special guest. He gave members an insightful overview of how local councils operate and what a councillor’s responsibilities involve. He also explained the vital role voters play in strengthening democracy, both locally and nationally.

A Mock Election with Real Ballot Papers

To bring the day to life, members held a mock election complete with ballot papers and ballot boxes. This gave everyone the chance to vote, just as they would in a real election.

Four groups took part, each representing different parts of the branch’s youth and adult membership. Every group presented a 10-minute manifesto. Each manifesto set out clear objectives, alongside practical, well-structured solutions to real-world issues.

Next Gen Britain Wins the Manifesto Competition

After all four presentations, members cast their votes. The team Next Gen Britain, made up of the branch’s teenage girls, won with 33 votes overall. Congratulations to all four groups for their hard work and creativity throughout the day.

In a generous and spontaneous gesture, Councillor Chilton announced on the spot that he would arrange a free visit to the UK Parliament for the winning team. Well done to Next Gen Britain on a well-earned reward.
