On Sunday, 14 June 2026, the Kesari Branch of Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (UK) held its annual community service and fundraising event, this year under the theme “Service Shuttle-thon.” Hosted at the Hindu Community Centre in Cheltenham, the event brought together families, community members, and volunteers for a day of indoor sport, friendship, and fundraising.

Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (UK), commonly known as HSS (UK), is a voluntary cultural and community organisation that encourages personal development, family participation, cultural awareness, community service, and active citizenship. Service to society is an important part of its activities, inspired by the Hindu principle of Seva, meaning selfless service undertaken for the benefit of others.

Sport, Community and Service

Running from 10am to 4pm, the event made full use of the community centre’s facilities, with participants of different ages enjoying friendly games of badminton, table tennis, and board games.

The relaxed and inclusive atmosphere encouraged families and individuals to participate together, with the focus on enjoyment and community connection rather than competition.

Alongside the sporting activities, participants were invited to contribute towards a fundraising campaign supporting Play Gloucestershire, a local charity that provides school- and community-based play opportunities for disadvantaged children across the county.

Supporting Children Through Play

Play is an important part of children’s development, helping them build confidence, social skills, creativity, and physical wellbeing. The work of Play Gloucestershire provides opportunities for children who may otherwise have limited access to safe and positive play experiences.

By combining an enjoyable community event with fundraising for a local cause, the initiative demonstrated how simple activities can create a wider positive impact.

£500 Raised for the Local Community

The event raised an impressive £500, surpassing the amount raised in previous years.

The achievement reflected the generosity and enthusiasm of everyone who participated, donated, volunteered, or helped promote the event. It also demonstrated the continuing commitment of members of HSS (UK) to supporting causes that benefit the wider community.

The organisers expressed their sincere thanks to all participants, volunteers, supporters, and the Hindu Community Centre for providing the venue and helping make the event possible.

The Sanskrit phrase “Sangathan mein Shakti hai” means “There is strength in unity.” It captures the spirit of the day: when people come together with a shared purpose, even a simple community gathering can make a meaningful difference to the lives of others.
