A Remarkable Virtual Ride for a Noble Cause

Despite the challenges of 2020 and the ongoing pandemic restrictions , the Cycle4Sewa initiative continued its inspiring journey. In 2020 , the event went virtual – participant cycled , ran , and walked independently across the UK while raising crucial funds for Sewa (selfless service) through UK’s charitable initiatives. With immense dedication from hundreds of supporters , the event successfully raised over £17,000 to support communities in need.

Virtual Format , Real Impact

Unable to gather in person, participants adapted creatively. Utilising platforms like Strava, and motivated by friendly competition, individuals and families tracked their fitness journeys online. Over 350 participants came together , collectively covering a record-breaking 39,000 km.

For the first time, Cycle4Sewa became a truly national event, with enthusiastic participation from all 7 Vibhags (regional divisions of national organisation) across the UK. Participants ranged in ages 2 to 74 years , showcasing that the spirit of sewa transcends generations. From casual riders to committed athletes , many challenged themselves – some completing half marathons and others cycling over 100km in a single day.

Personal Growth Through Sewa

More than just a fundraiser , the event became a source of health and happiness for many. Participants reported improved fitness and mental wellbeing, and some even discovered new hobbies. In a year marked by isolation and uncertainty , the shared purpose of sewa brought comfort and unity.

Looking Ahead with Sangh Spirit

The success of Cycle4Sewa 2020 reflects the values of Sangh ( a collective organisation typically referring to Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh , HSS), where teamwork, discipline and service are fundamental. The organising team now look ahead with enthusiasm and invites new participants to be part of this growing event.
