In October 2020, during the Navaratri festival (nine-night festival dedicated to Goddess Durga), over 500 families came together in an inspiring act of sewa (selfless service), as part of Sewa’s Day Navaratri Food Bank Collection Campaign. With the support of Hindu Mandirs (temples) and local street collections , the initiative succeeded in delivering food to more than 80 different organsations, helping children and families facing hardship.

The Campaign achieved a significant milestone – collecting and distributing enough food to provide a staggering 25,000 meals. This effort ensured that no child went hungry during the school half-term break. Volunteers from across the community gave their time and resources with deep bhavna (spirit of devotion and goodwill) , reflecting the values of Navaratri , a Hindu festival that honours the triumph of good over evil.

Images from the campaign showed stacks of food parcels, generous donations, and a powerful sense of unity. The success of the initiative was a testament to what communities can accomplish when driven by compassion and purpose.

As the campaign concluded , the Sewa Day team began preparing for the upcoming Diwali (festivals of lights) and Christmas outreach efforts – carrying forward the momentum of this incredible act of service.
