On 23rd November 2025, the Leamington Branch of Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (UK) organised a lively and educational celebration of UK Parliament Week for children aged between 4 and 11 years old. The event was designed to introduce young participants to the principles of democracy, debate, and community participation in an engaging and age-appropriate way.

Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (UK), commonly known as HSS (UK), is a voluntary cultural and community organisation that promotes Hindu values, character development, family wellbeing, and active citizenship across the United Kingdom. Through regular educational, cultural, and community-based activities, HSS (UK) encourages young people to develop confidence, leadership skills, and a strong sense of social responsibility while remaining connected to the rich heritage of Hindu and Indian culture.

The programme created an enthusiastic and welcoming atmosphere, with children participating in a range of educational and creative activities aimed at building confidence, teamwork, and communication skills.

A special educational session was held to explain the importance of UK Parliament Week and how democratic institutions function in modern society. The session introduced children to ideas such as voting, public debate, and respecting different opinions. These themes also reflect long-standing traditions within Indian culture, where open discussion, dialogue, and collective decision-making have historically played an important role in community life.

Creative workshops formed another key part of the event, with children enjoying word puzzles, painting activities, and interactive learning exercises. Such activities encouraged imagination and self-expression while helping participants build friendships and confidence.

Guest speakers also addressed the gathering, sharing inspiring messages about community involvement, personal growth, and the importance of aiming high in life. Their talks encouraged young attendees to become positive contributors to society and to value both education and service to others.

One of the highlights of the event was a structured debate on the topic: “Should every home have a pet?” Participants confidently presented thoughtful arguments both in favour of and against the motion. Through this activity, children learned the importance of listening respectfully to differing viewpoints and expressing their own opinions clearly and constructively.

The debate also connected with wider values found in Hindu and Indian traditions, where kindness towards animals and respect for all living beings are strongly emphasised. Many Hindu teachings encourage compassion, responsibility, and harmony with nature, values that continue to shape attitudes towards animals and the environment today.

By combining democratic learning with cultural values, creativity, and public speaking, the event demonstrated how organisations such as HSS (UK) help nurture confident, thoughtful, and socially aware young people who are prepared to contribute positively to wider society.
